Welcome to Grade 4

Welcome to 4th Grade!

4th Grade is an exciting time for students as they transition from primary to intermediate.  As a Leader in Me school, students will learn to be more independent and responsible for their own learning.  Here are some highlights of 4th grade:

In ELA, students will participate in Reading and Writing Workshop. In these programs, students explore hundreds of texts at their just right level to practice reading and writing strategies at an independent pace. While students work, teachers confer one on one or in small groups to strengthen their skills, observe their progress, and address their needs. These programs allow individuals to grow as a reader and writer. During this time student students will also build on their word attack skills with sound, letters and word, in a weekly word study. This is used to expand and refine children’s reading and writing powers. These programs together will create lifelong readers and writers.

In math students will be using the EveryDay Math program.  Some skills students will be working on include multiplication, division, geometry, and fractions.  In addition to the EveryDay Math program, students will have daily math fact fluency using First in Math.

4th Graders will explore the world around them, past and present, in Science and Social Studies.  Students will expand their knowledge of physical science, Earth and space, and life science through readings, S.T.E.M. projects, investigations, and vocabulary study. Social Studies will focus on geography, American history and government, the economy, and the various regions of the United States.
