WELCOME TO JUNIATA GAP STRINGS!
Hello! My name is Lisa Strayer, and I have been an elementary strings teacher for 17 years. Throughout my career, I have taught both elementary and junior high school orchestra. Currently, I teach 4th through 6th grade string lessons at Baker, Juniata Gap, Logan, and Pleasant Valley Elementary School.
Outside of school, I can be found teaching private violin and viola lessons to students of all ages. I also work as a piano accompanist/organist for Saint Michael's in Hollidaysburg, PA. My favorite quote that I tell all of my string students is, “Practice only on days you eat!”
WHY I TEACH MUSIC
Music has always been a huge part of my life. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve playing in the school orchestra. When I became a music teacher, I knew I wanted to share my love for music with the students and help them to acquire the many benefits that music has to offer. I believe that playing an instrument can help students learn discipline, respect, confidence, teamwork, social skills, coordination, problem solving skills, listening skills, and perseverance. I feel lucky that I can help the music students obtain so many of the life skills that they will need in the workforce as adults.
