GAP PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATIONThe Juniata Gap PTO is a strong organization, built from the efforts of dedicated parents and teachers. The officers and committees along with a job description are listed below.
OFFICERS
Membership
- responsible for conducting the annual membership drive.
Scholarship-
responsible for interviewing applicants and selecting the recipients
of the annual scholarships.
Labels
and Receipts - responsible for collecting, and administering, the
Campbell's soup labels, General Mills Boxtops, and the Giant Eagle
Program.
Ways
and Means - responsible for the fund raising activities.
Picnic
- responsible for planning and coordinating the annual picnic.
Staff
and Community Relations - responsible for overseeing the
communication between parents, teachers and staff - examples -
teacher/staff appreciation day, opening week of school "helpers".
Library
- responsible for coordinating volunteers to assist with library
checkout and maintaining the school library.
Sports
- responsible for coordinating the sports-related activities,
including scheduling of teams practices, uniforms and pictures.
Activities
Banquet - responsible for coordinating the annual banquet recognizing
those students involved in sports, music, etc.
Contact
Room Parents - responsible for coordinating help for classrooms and
refreshments at PTO meetings and school functions. Room parents are
selected by classroom teachers at the beginning of school year.
Nominating
- responsible for generating a slate of candidates for the office
vacancies.

Grade Recognition and Party - responsible for coordinating the annual
6th grade recognition ceremony and 6th grade party.
6th
Grade Patrol Trip - responsible for planning and coordinating the 6th
grade patrol trip along with the patrol supervisor.
The Officers serve two-year terms, whereas the Committee chairpersons are 1-year terms.
Parent participation and commitment to the PTO is appreciated. The chairperson of each commitee is responsible for attending the PTO executive meetings and updating the membership on the activities of that committee. The executive board meets once a month 30 to 60 minutes each meeting.
We welcome parent volunteers in our school for library, class projects, and tutoring. When a parent volunteers in any school setting (including field trips), their full attention must be given to the students. When volunteering, bringing a baby or other children is not permitted for safety reasons. All volunteers must have a volunteer application (available in the office) and proof of a negative TB test on file in the main office.
